A Cork man who appeared shaken and embarrassed after a public order incident in a Limerick village was convicted in district court. The intoxicated defendant, Jonathan Moloney (also known as John Moloney), from Ballinakill East, County Cork, was found unable to stand outside a house on Sycamore Drive in Bruff, Limerick, on May 1, 2025. Gardaí reported that an ambulance was required after arriving at the scene due to safety concerns.
During the hearing, Inspector Gearóid Thompson disclosed that Moloney has a substantial prior record, including 33 convictions. These include six assaults, seven public order offences, two drink-driving offences, unauthorised possession of a firearm, obstruction of a peace officer, and various road traffic offences.
Solicitor Julianne Kiely told the court that Moloney was “very embarrassed” by the events and could not recall the night in question. In seeking leniency, she noted that Moloney had subsequently secured a residential placement for addiction treatment in Cork.
Judge Patricia Harney found Moloney guilty of the public order offence and imposed a €400 fine, with a payment window of five months.
